These Terms of Service (the Terms) govern your use of WiFiBuddy, the native macOS Wi-Fi analysis application, and the WiFiBuddy website and documentation (together, the Service). By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree with these Terms, do not download, install, or use the Service.
The Service
WiFiBuddy helps you observe nearby Wi-Fi conditions, understand channel overlap, inspect connection details, and run local network stability tests. WiFiBuddy is an analysis and diagnostic tool. It does not configure your router, guarantee a particular connection speed, or replace your network administrator, internet provider, or security professional.
Some features depend on macOS, CoreWLAN, Location Services, local network access, your hardware, and the wireless networks available at the time of a scan. Features may vary by macOS version, device, regulatory region, or network equipment.
Acceptable use
You may use WiFiBuddy for lawful personal or internal business purposes on a Mac that you own or are authorized to use. You must not:
- use the Service to access, test, or monitor networks without authorization;
- interfere with, disrupt, or degrade another person’s network or device;
- use the Service to violate any law, regulation, contract, or third-party right;
- reverse engineer, circumvent, or disable security or licensing controls, except where applicable law expressly permits it; or
- misrepresent scan results or use them as the sole basis for safety-critical, emergency, or unlawful decisions.
Permissions and local data
WiFiBuddy may ask macOS for Location Services permission because macOS protects Wi-Fi metadata such as SSID and BSSID behind that permission. You control whether to grant it. WiFiBuddy processes scan data locally and does not operate an account, advertising system, or analytics pipeline. Details about permissions and data handling are described in the Privacy Policy.
Intellectual property
WiFiBuddy, its name, design, software, documentation, and related materials are owned by Alkinum or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended purpose. No ownership rights are transferred to you.
The WiFiBuddy source code may include or be distributed under the licenses described in the project repository. Those licenses apply to the relevant code where they conflict with these Terms.
Third-party services
The Service may link to or interoperate with Apple services, GitHub, your router, DNS servers, or other third-party services. Those services are controlled by their respective providers and subject to their own terms and privacy policies. Alkinum is not responsible for third-party services or content.
Availability and disclaimers
The Service is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Alkinum disclaims warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability, and non-infringement. We do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every network environment.
Channel recommendations and measurements are informational. You remain responsible for decisions about your network and for complying with applicable radio, privacy, security, and access-control rules.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Alkinum will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill, or business interruption arising from or related to the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
Changes and termination
We may update the Service or these Terms from time to time. The effective date above indicates when this version took effect. If a change is material, we will provide notice where reasonably practicable. You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or discontinue the Service if necessary to protect users, comply with law, or maintain the Service.
